Michelle Rhee and Governor Sandoval

Michelle Rhee “reformed” Washington DC schools. She showed great improvements on standardized tests. . . kind of. But there seem to be some statistical anomalies with her test numbers. . . and then there are noticeable amounts of erasures. Seems like right after she left Washington D.C – the scores went back to normal? HMMMMMMMM

Under investigation = Michelle Rhee

EVERYTHING she did to “reform” Washington DC schools achievement is questionable. She’s a known cheater. BUT she did fire a lot of teachers, sooooooooo she is the champion? Maybe her organization isn’t really about students? Maybe it’s about firing teachers – because she has proven, that is what she does best. She has never proven she can improve achievement – without cheating . NOW she is spreading her message.

So in the last legislative battle, which primarily was a war on public education in this state, who does Nevada’s Governor Sandoval look to?

Michelle Rhee’s company: studentsfirst.org

Catchy isn’t it? Student’s first. Kind of implies the rest of us don’t know that students are what it’s all about. That makes this teacher MAD!

So Governor Sandoval follows the advice of this company. Did he pay them money to give him advice on how to “reform” our schools? Did Sandoval use taxpayer money to hire this cheating lady – during a budget crisis? Was that a wise use of funds?

Michelle Rhee made a mess in Washington DC and now she is selling her brand to the rest of the nation. She seems very popular with the Governors of several states. She got canned – so I guess she needed a job. Waaaaaaaaa la – she’s a corporation with templates for busting teacher unions.

Michelle Rhee is the “expert”. She is an “expert” reformer if you want to fire a lot of teachers, I’ll give her that. She is the slick and slimy person sent to layoff and fire veteran teachers. She is a heartless teacher attacker, just the kind of person our governor needed to fire 1 in 5 teachers like he promised.

Sadly . . . test taking skills are not a full education. When you put undue amounts of concern on testing numbers, you can end up entire populations graduating because they test well – but are poorly educated. So Nevada’s Governor Sandoval under the advice of Rhee’s company wants to “reward” teachers who have excellent scores. That should help all students learn faster and better right?

Unfortunately, when teachers are placed in a position to earn or not earn according to testing. . . you get questionable gains. Careful what you reward. Do we want to be like Michelle Rhee the great education reformer? She spends a lot of time defending the cheating. Doesn’t that really rob students of a real education?

REFORM was the cry. REFORM, REFORM, REFORM! So are we going to fire teachers and do better on tests? . . . wait. . . Rhee is best at cheating. None of this really helps kids does it? SHAME!

CHEAT AND FIRE, CHEAT AND FIRE, CHEAT AND FIRE must be the cry from Governor Sandoval and Michelle Rhee.

Scapegoat the teachers for all the economic ills of society while completely ignoring what Wall Street corruption has done for our country.

If Brian Sandoval tries to be like Scott Walker he will face a backlash. His high approval ratings would quickly tank.

Many employers in Nevada have cited the lack of an educated work force hindering growth. We should be striving to improve education rather than throwing teachers under the bus.

Putting the Corporate ‘efficiency’ baloney on Education was always the wrong idea. Mandatory tests is the wrong approach and it is used to degrade the work of good teachers. There are many variables in education: the child’s own abilities and aptitude, the child’s own impairments, like needing glasses or hearing, the child’s home life, is the child getting time to study at home?, is the child getting good nutrition, and many more things as well. Schools need to be left alone, fully funded, and the assessment requirements left to the local schools. Teachers unions should be protected. Teachers should earn a decent wage. Lets leave teachers alone and give them the freedom and funding to do the jobs they love.
